I’m not a huge fan of sports movies, but I like a good drama. Here, Ben Affleck plays a very troubled man.

Some people experience tragedy and choose to make something good from their lives. Some people experience tragedy and throw their lives away. Ben portrays the latter. It’s sad.

Minor spoilers to follow

Most Americans prefer a “rags to riches” story. This is more of a “rags to worse rags” kind of story.

Is it worth 3D, IMAX, or any other special viewing? No, this was a typical movie with minimal special effects.

Would I see it again? I would not see the movie again. That doesn’t mean it’s a stinker. If I knew a fan of basketball, I might even recommend it.

Should I rent it? Buy it? This might be a good one to rent. No need to buy it once you have seen it once.

Is it family safe? The movie is a bit rough at times. Language is rough, for sure. The main character makes some poor choices. There is no nudity or extreme violence.

Did it have “the look?” This is a typical movie with nothing special when it comes to cinematography.

Did it have “the feels?” (+.5) Yes, there was one triumphant moment. You gotta root for the underdog team.

Final Verdict: 4/5 A sad drama that falls a little short of triumph.
